WINE REGION
Paso Robles
Country USA

Paso Robles is a vast wine-growing region situated at the southern end of California's Central Coast region of the United States. The viticulture thrives in the region since the 18th-century thankfully to the Spanish emigrant's missions on the coastline. Although the proximity to the Pacific Ocean the region's climate remains very hot and dry, and that is because the hills that lie between the main vineyard areas and the coast, acting as a shield from the climate-moderating coastal influences, resulting hot days and cool nights. The soil types are predominantly granite, older marine sedimentary rocks, volcanic rocks, featuring calcareous shales, sandstone, or mudstone. Paso Robles wine region is known for its rich, ripe reds based on Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and the Rhône Valley grapes Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre as well as some cooler climate grapes like Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Since 2014 Paso Robles AVA (American Viticultural Area) is divided into 16 sub-AVAs because of the variable microclimates which each one has. The most famous of all are Adelaida, Edna Valley, Paso Robles, Paso Robles Estrella, Paso Robles Geneseo, Paso Robles Highlands District, Paso Robles Willow Creek, San Miguel District and York Mountain. Paso Robles is one of the most interesting and diverse wine regions in California worth to explore.
